The Catholic Worker Movement was founded by Dorothy Day, a journalist and Catholic convert and Peter Maurin, a French laborer and philosopher, in New York City in 1933. It began as a newspaper and evolved into a network of communities seeking to engage with social issues in concrete and spiritually grounded ways.
